ANKARA — Turkey and the United States plan to discuss energy projects in Iraq.
Officials said Turkey would join discussions on projects to explore for oil in northern Iraq. They said the meeting would take place in March in Turkey and include the United States.

"The first step in that regard will be taken in March," Turkish Energy Minister Hilmi Guler said.

Guler told the Turkish business daily Referans that the Baghdad government has asked Ankara to help in oil exploration in northern Iraq, Middle East Newsline reported. He said the Turkish Petroleum Corp. or other Turkish companies could be involved in any project.

TPAO has been searching for oil in neighboring Syria and plans to explore off the coast of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.
