Iraq's Ministry of Oil on Wednesday (June 11th) said it intends to offer up al-Nasiriyah oilfield for investment by foreign companies in a new oil licensing round scheduled for kick-off next week.
Seven international oil companies will compete to win the contract to develop al-Nasiriyah oilfield, boost its production levels and build a refinery with a capacity of 300,000 barrels per day, ministry spokesman Assem Jihad told Al-Shorfa.
The ministry hopes that these measures will meet local needs in the southern provinces as well as reduce dependency on imported fuel for vehicles and heating, he said.
