Indonesian President: World Bank, IMF, ADB Alone Cannot Tackle Economic Issues

Jakarta – Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Wednesday that Asian African countries must receive global solidarity and justice, which has not thus far been extended by several countries.
“Global injustice continues as several countries are not yet willing to accept that the global reality has changed. The view that global economic problems can only be solved by the World Bank, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) are obsolete views that have to be abandoned,” said President Widodo in his remarks at the opening of the 60th Commemoration of the Asian African Conference at Jakarta Convention Center (JCC.)

President Widodo also affirmed that Asia Africa must join ranks to build a new global economic order that is open for new economic forces.

“We urge efforts to reform the architecture of the global economy in order to remove the dominance of one country’s interests over those of other countries,” he added.

Currently, he added, the world needs a collective global leadership that is manifested in a just and responsible way.

“Therefore, Indonesia and other Asian countries are now emerging as a new power,” he concluded.
